The Weekly Read #6, "It’s Not Lost, It’s Right Where You Left It"

*** Full disclosure: I first heard this concept in Matthew McConaughey’s book, ‘Greenlights.’  A wonderful book full of wisdom and cool stories.  I highly recommend the audio version because he narrates it himself.   My momma showed it to me for the first time when she, my sister, and I drove from Kansas to Los Angeles in 2021.  Since then, I have probably listened to it 20+ times.  ***

Anywho. Now that I have established that this is not my original idea, I can tell you why I am talking about it in this week’s newsletter.  On two separate occasions today, this exact idea played itself out.  As I was leaving to go bike to the post office (all orders from this weekend have been shipped out,) I realized I couldn’t find our gate-opener remote.  I am the most common user of the remote due to my biking habits, so why was it not on the shelf like normal? I looked in the usual place it sits, but to no avail.  I looked all over the studio, but again: to no avail.  I decided to immediately call Jogger like a childish teenager calling their Mom when they don’t know where their shit is, but I had a reason: Jogger’s room is close to our driveway so he has parked in the driveway a couple times and I figured he was most likely to have used it last if not me.  I mean someone must’ve used the remote last because it’s not in the place I ALWAYS put it.  However, when I asked Jog if he had it, he said he was pretty sure I was the last one to use it and to check my backpack.  I felt the red in my face come up as I was mid-(mild)-accusation and realized it was very possible it could be in my backpack.  I unzipped my Jansport and started digging through the two possible compartments. But once again: nothing.  I went to the last resort: the utility drawer.  We had our first party this weekend, so maybe one of the other roommates used it and put it the original place we would put it when we moved in.  BUT IT WASN’T THERE!!! Where the fuck is this stupid fucking remote?  I was about to just throw my bicycle over the gate when I looked outside and saw the bench, littered with swimsuits, sunscreen bottles, and bug spray.  Then I remembered: I put it on the bench.  Yup, I looked where I now remembered placing it and saw it slightly showing under a pair of swim trunks.  It wasn’t lost; it was right where I left it. Beautiful.

The second story is actually still to be concluded.  Today, Jack went into the studio to get clothes ready for our photoshoot tomorrow and I stayed home to work.  I made four new upcycle pieces over the weekend and I needed to measure the lengths of the pieces before I uploaded them to the website.  I was in search of some measuring tape and Jack was the last person I lent my toolbox to.  Palm was in the hottub filming YouTube videos so in between takes, I asked if he had a measuring tape in his kit, but he recommended using the iPhone measure tool.  Good idea.  But I want to use some trusty physical tape! So I went through Jack’s drawers in his room to see if he brought the toolbox back.  And as I looked through the upper part of his closet, I saw something..  A Green Tea Trader Joe’s candle sitting underneath some bed sheets.  This may seem ordinary, but Jack has been asking me if I have seen a candle that I THINK fit the description of this candle I found in the upper closet space.  He had been worried either one of the roommates or his girlfriend accidentally took it or maybe it was just hopelessly lost.

He just got home so I am literally going to show him the candle now.  Here we go…………….........................................……………. IT WAS THE CORRECT CANDLE! He was joyous, yet almost suspicious of the fact it had appeared.  Lol.  Also, he told me that the toolbox is right where I keep it; he put it back.  Wow.  How it all works out.  Life can be very funny.

So that is the story for the day.  I uploaded the four new pieces to the UPCYCLE SERIES section of the Read a Book website last night.  Feel free to check ‘em out; I linked 'em below. I had fun making each one.  I appreciate everyone purchasing and supporting the brand.  You guys are awesome.
